03.09.2025 | Skopje
Lidl has officially started the construction of its newest store in the municipality of Aerodrom, which will feature modern architecture and sustainable technologies. The new retail facility will cover an area of 3,438 square meters, with a sales area of 1,200 square meters, and for additional convenience for customers, the location will also have 57 parking spaces. This is another key step in the company's expansion plan and its mission to make high-quality products more accessible to consumers in North Macedonia.
The official groundbreaking ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia, Hristijan Mickoski, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Aleksandar Nikoloski, the Acting Mayor of the Municipality of Aerodrom, Dejan Miteski, and Lidl Executive Representative, Milena Dragijska.
Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski welcomed Lidl's presence in Aerodrom and stated that this project is not just the beginning of the construction of an ordinary facility, but the beginning of a new chapter in retail with new standards, greater competition and better conditions for citizens. He emphasized that he is particularly proud of the fact that the company has accepted to increase the presence of domestic production and Macedonian products on Lidl's shelves.
"This is of utmost importance, because it not only maintains the local economy, but also builds consumer confidence that Macedonian products are the best. Additionally, Macedonian products are on Lidl shelves in surrounding countries. In 2024, exports were around 5 million euros, and this year, in an informal conversation with Lidl representatives, we expect that figure to reach up to 10 million euros and grow over time. This should be an inspiration and motivation for Macedonian entrepreneurs to meet and produce according to Lidl standards", said Mickoski.
Lidl Executive Representative Milena Dragijska said that Lidl's investment across the country is part of a long-term plan to operate in the Macedonian market and reflects the company's commitment to growth and innovation. Our local investments represent an opportunity for us to contribute and connect with local communities.
"When we build new markets, we follow international professional standards, and at the same time we cooperate with local companies, directly contributing to the domestic economy. Soon we will open our doors to the residents of Aerodrom and the entire country. I sincerely hope that with our work we will earn your trust and that Macedonian citizens will choose Lidl as their preferred destination for everyday essentials" Dragijska added.
Lidl's investment plan in North Macedonia includes the construction of a Regional Distribution Center in Rechica, Kumanovo, and stores in several locations across the country.
Lidl is part of the Schwarz Group, headquartered in Neckarsulm, Germany, and is one of the leading food retailers in Germany and Europe. Lidl currently operates around 12,600 stores and more than 230 distribution and logistics centers in 31 countries and employs over 382,400 people.
