Lidl has started construction of a market in Gevgelija: An investment that brings growth, new jobs and support for domestic producers

With a groundbreaking ceremony, Lidl officially began the construction of another store in the country. This retail facility will be located in Gevgelija and is Lidl's first store in this municipality, as part of the company's long-term investment plan in Macedonia. The store in Gevgelija will cover an area of ​​2,356 square meters, with a sales area of ​​1,507 square meters. An additional benefit for customers will be the planned 130 parking spaces, which will enable comfortable and practical shopping.

With the implementation of this project, Lidl confirms its commitment to investing in modern retail facilities built according to the highest standards, which provide a pleasant user experience and offer a carefully selected assortment, with an optimal ratio between high quality and favorable prices, as a recognizable hallmark of the company in all markets. 

Goce Gavrilov, Real Estate Director at Lidl North Macedonia, stressed that the investment in Gevgelija is a confirmation of the company's confidence in the potential of the Macedonian market and economy. "With the start of the construction of the market in Gevgelija, we continue with the strategy of expanding the sales network and long-term investment in the country. Our goal is to build sales points that are spacious, bright and contemporary, with a modern look, with ecological materials and with a focus on energy efficiency, creating a comfortable experience for our consumers, but also a quality working environment for our employees," emphasized Gavrilov. He emphasized that each new investment by Lidl has a broader economic and social significance for the local community and the national economy by opening new jobs and cooperating with domestic producers. In this regard, he emphasized that they are particularly proud that through Lidl's sales network in 2025, an export of Macedonian products worth 15.5 million euros was achieved. Gavrilov added that the company has excellent cooperation with institutions at the local and central level, which he hopes will continue in the future, thanking Mayor Saramandov and the Municipal Council for the constructive cooperation so far, as well as the company's team and its partners involved in the implementation of this project. 

The Mayor of Gevgelija, Andon Saramandov, stressed that this investment is a significant step for the development potential of the municipality. "Gevgelija is among the first towns in which the construction of a Lidl store begins, an investment that will further strengthen the attractiveness of our municipality. It will contribute to new employment opportunities, strengthening the local economy and enriching the offer for consumers. I am convinced that the cooperation with Lidl will continue successfully in the future," said Saramandov.
