Strumica is the latest key point on Lidl’s investment map in the country. With today’s groundbreaking ceremony, the company officially began construction of the new store, which will not only expand its sales network, but will also bring a direct boost to the local economy. This investment is part of Lidl’s strategic development in Macedonia, aimed at creating new jobs, supporting domestic production and establishing the most modern retail standards.
In front of the high-ranking guests and representatives of the local community, the Chief Operations Officer of Lidl North Macedonia, Rubriyan Hadzhiev, emphasized that this project is a symbol of the company’s long-term commitment to the Macedonian market.
“Laying the foundation stone in Strumica is an important step in the realization of our vision. So far, Lidl has invested more than 200 million euros in modern logistics and sales infrastructure, building a system that brings value to everyone. Each of our markets is a new opportunity for jobs and a bridge for local suppliers to our extensive network. We are proud that last year the export of Macedonian products through Lidl reached 15.5 million euros, and with facilities like this one in Strumica, those opportunities will grow further”, said Hadzhiev.
He added that Lidl remains committed to introducing high standards in retail, as well as to investments that create long-term value.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Aleksandar Nikoloski, pointed out that such investments are a clear signal of the improved business climate and the confidence of foreign investors.
“The arrival of one of the world's largest retail brands such as Lidl means a lot to the state, the country's economy and the business climate. This is an investment worth more than 200 million euros, which will open up new opportunities for economic growth and the creation of new jobs. I know that Lidl already exports Macedonian products and I want to thank them for that. I am convinced that the new Lidl market in Strumica will contribute not only to a greater choice and a higher quality offer for consumers, but also to additional marketing of Macedonian products, especially agricultural products from the Strumica region. As a government, we are grateful and will continue to support all investments that contribute to the development and competitiveness of the Macedonian economy”, emphasized Nikoloski.
The Mayor of the Municipality of Strumica, Petar Jankov, expressed satisfaction that a global brand like Lidl recognizes the economic potential and entrepreneurial spirit of the region.
“This store is a great benefit for Strumica. It means new jobs and new partnerships for our local companies. Our municipality remains open to cooperation and support for projects that improve the quality of life. I believe that this is the beginning of a successful partnership that will bring long-term prosperity to our fellow citizens”, emphasized Jankov.
Lidl's Real Estate Director for Bulgaria and North Macedonia, Biser Inchovski, emphasized that the company applies the most modern standards for sustainable construction when building its facilities, while also creating value for the domestic economy.
"The new store in Strumica is being built according to the highest international standards for energy efficiency and sustainability, using modern technological solutions that contribute to environmental protection. We are also paying special attention to the landscaping of the space, and as much as 20 percent of the plot will be greened. At the same time, we are particularly pleased that exclusively domestic companies are engaged as contractors in the implementation of this project. In this way, in addition to creating a modern retail facility, we are also directly contributing to the development of the local construction industry and the Macedonian economy", said Inchovski.
